Should I get a free or paid membership?

We all know that speech therapists love Boom Cards™. They are my favorite type of resource. But you might wonder if speech therapists need a paid Boom Learning ℠ membership account or would the free account work just as well?  The answer is that it depends.  Even with a paid membership Boom Cards are a great deal.  The good news is that many speech therapists do use Boom Cards for speech therapy with a free account.  A paid membership does not include points in the Boom Learning store.  It also does not include any Boom Card decks.  Here are some questions to consider when you decide which membership level would work for you.

Do you want Boom Learning progress reports?

A paid membership allows you to generate progress reports.  Many Boom Card decks are self-grading and will  track the accuracy of your student’s answers on each Boom Card deck. I have never used the Boom Learning progress reports as a speech therapist for two reasons.

1.  I often use Boom Card decks like tic tac toe and Feed the Shark Articulation which aren’t set up to determine a correct or incorrect answer.

2.  The reports won’t reflect visual cues or verbal supports you are giving the student.  In my opinion it doesn’t give an accurate picture of progress for speech therapy.

I have talked to a few therapists who do use the reports but most I have asked don’t use them.  I write down data in my student’s file as I always have.

If you do want to use the reports, you can refer to the chart below to determine which membership level you need based on the number of students you have.

Do you want to create your own Boom Cards?

A free membership will allow you to create up to 5 Boom Card decks.  If you want to monitor the progress for more than 5 students you may need the Essentials membership.  If you want to make more than 5 decks even for your own personal use you will need a premium membership (Either the Premium or Publisher level will allow you to make more than 5 decks.)  If you want to sell them in the Boom Learning store  you will need a Publisher Membership. I have a Publisher membership because I sell the decks I make in my  Boom Learning Store.
