Why you should be using Boom Cards
How much do I love Boom Cards? Let me count the ways. Seriously, it is hard to narrow it down. Once I got my first deck of Boom Cards. I was hooked. Keep reading for 5 reasons to use Boom Cards in Speech Therapy. Boom Cards are digital task cards perfect for speech therapy. All you need is a tablet and wifi and the free Boom Learning℠ app to get started in your speech room. They also work on most teletherapy platforms, desktop computers and interactive whiteboards.
They are easy to take with you.
It was 2018 and I was seeing students for speech therapy at a clinic and a school. The back of my car looked like a toy store and a collection of giant bags. We’ve all done it. Schlepped a giant bag or two, (ok three) of therapy materials. Sometimes the activity you planned is not working and you have to be able to switch to something else. Once I saw how many colorful engaging resources could fit on my iPad with Boom Cards I never looked back. All the resources are stored in your Boom Learning library on the Boom Learning website. They are not using up the memory space on your tablet or laptop no matter how many resources you have in your Boom library.
Kids love them!
I haven’t met a student yet that didn’t love Boom Cards. They are full color and interactive. It is so much more engaging than a worksheet. It is easy to go into your Boom Learning library and choose a different resource when it is time to switch activities. There are so many games and themes to choose from in the Boom Learning store, you will never run out of fun ways to target your speech and language goals.
No printing, laminating, labeling or storing in a bin.
Using Boom Cards really cuts down on time spent printing, cutting, laminating and then finding a storage solution for resources. Save some trees, some money, and some time. Download the Boom Cards and use them. I use a mix of printed paper resources, games and digital. I really appreciate the time and space saving that digital adds to my life.
Boom Cards are easy on the budget.
There are so many free decks of Boom Cards available for speech therapy. Take advantage of the free decks to see what you like. There are monthly SLP sales to help you fill your digital toolbox with what you need for less. Many of the decks are around two dollars. Plus you can use a free Boom Learning account. No monthly payment. You can really get a lot of resources for a little cash. It’s the best bargain out there.

They are easy to combine with therapy favorites.
I didn’t stop using my favorite books, games, visual cues, and resources when I started using Boom Cards. I use a mix of what works best for my students. Boom Cards are great on their own or pair the stimulus words on the Boom Card with your favorite game. Use the same visual cues that work for you. Some Boom Card decks are open ended so you can use the Boom Card deck as your game with your traditional therapy cards. I use my iPad case with a keyboard to prop up my iPad for therapy. This makes it easier to see and takes up very little space on the table so there is a room for a mirror, or visual cues or whatever you want to add to the activity. There are many Boom Card book companions for therapy so you can read your favorite book and use the Boom Card deck alongside it.
It’s easy to clean.
Oops. That is reason number six. My newest reason for loving Boom Cards on a tablet is that it is easier to clean one tablet screen than to sanitize 50 game pieces. We are all more vigilant about cleaning the speech area between sessions these days and using Boom Cards make this easier too.
